The House

The house was built c1753 and is set in 60 acres of garden and parkland that has been planted with trees, shrubs and rhododendrons over the generations.

It was originally the home of Betty Harvie Anderson, the Conservative MP for East Renfrewshire between 1959 & 1979 and who was the first woman deputy speaker of the House of Commons.
Amongst her guests to Quarter during this time was the then up and coming future Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
On retirement Betty was given a life peerage and took the title Baroness Skrimshire of Quarter.

Walk through the gardens at Quarter where Margeret Thatcher walked, taking in the wonderful views and peaceful location enjoyed by our guests today.
In the evening you can sit in the lovely comfortable sitting room relax, read or watch the television. In the winter there is a wonderful log fire that heats up the room.
